ISO Management Systems

International Standards Organization (ISO) creates standards to provide a leading practice framework in creating and establishing management systems.  These standards are designed to be applied to any organization, regardless of structure, size, product or service, or industry.

Management system thinking impacts both the external environment (e.g., customers) and the internal environment (e.g., employees), with benefits including:

  • External (e.g., customers)
    • Provides assurance to interested parties of the existence of best practice management systems based on international standards
    • Demonstrates management commitment to required activities and processes
    • Demonstrates awareness of legislative and regulatory requirements
    • Increases customer satisfaction as services and products are consistently delivered as promised
  • Internal (e.g., employees)
    • Creates a structure within the organization to provide management with value transparency
    • Improves risk management
    • Ensures buy-in for implementation and application through promoting collaboration among stakeholders in developing these standards
    • Provides a model for continuous improvement with standards adopting the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model
    • Provides the organization a competitive advantage in the industry marketplace as the standards are the most recognized in their respective categories
    • Ensures consistency and efficiency in execution across process areas and service plans by creating well-defined and documented expectations/standards
    • Provides a system of measurement (metrics), which improve cost management
    • Ensures most efficient use of resources

Many of ISO Management System standards have the same structure, allowing organizations who desire more than one system to take an integrated approach to implementation and maintenance.  At Shield IS, we have successfully worked with clients in creating and implementing integrated management systems, resulting in economies of scale, and an easier way to manage and continually improve their systems.  We can partner with your organization to implement any ISO Management System, including: ISO 9001: Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 20000-1: Service Management System (SMS), ISO 22301: Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), and ISO 27001: Information Security Management System (ISMS).
